About

I’M ASHLEY FONTAINE

AND MY GOAL IS TO ERASE “WE’VE ALWAYS DONE
IT THAT WAY” FROM YOUR
VOCABULARY.

Are you with me?

I work with people and organizations to see the possibilities, and turn their vision into action.

Sharing what I’ve learned over the course of my career and building skills in other nonprofit and social change leaders so they can shine (and avoid burnout) is my JAM.

I founded Flux AF so I could do just that.

Over the last 13 years I have been an AmeriCorps member, an intern, an emerging mid-level manager, an Executive Director, and a board member; a workshop trainer, university lecturer, and freelance writer. I have a Master’s in Social Work and a decade of experience in the mental health field.

I left my job as a nonprofit executive because I was so burned out my brain wasn’t working anymore. We lose so much talent to the dynamics that cause burnout – and we can do things differently.

Today I’m the Chief Badassery Officer at Flux AF, where I help changemakers get unstuck and think about the opportunities and challenges ahead of them with equal parts strategy and creativity.

So what’s it like to work with me?

Well, this is what some of my clients have said:

“I feel a lot better than I did a year ago, and honestly a lot of that is thanks to you.”

A., Nonprofit Executive Director

“Your insights, experience, and listening skills are superb. You bring all of you to each engagement, you promote work that is doable, but sets goals to stretch our creativity and our potential achievements.”

Gary Davis, Executive Director, Companis

“You’re so genuine, and open, it’s more useful than any therapy I’ve had (and I’ve had a lot!). Working with you is priceless.”

Katie, LCSW

My personal values are freedom, fun, learning, and connection — and I bring those values to all the work I do.

My learning value shows up as radical curiosity. I ask a lot of questions, about where you are and why, things you’ve tried, what is and isn’t working. This helps me — and you! — connect the dots on new possibilities.

I believe most work can be fun if you bring the right mindset to it. What truly isn’t fun, well, we can find ways to laugh our way through it anyway. Humor is an excellent coping mechanism.

“Ashley will bring more to the engagement than you’d expect, and it will be valuable beyond words.

And, you’ll have a lot of FUN!”

Gary, Executive Director

A little more about me:

  • I’m a Washingtonian, born and raised, but I’ve lived in the deep south and spent 5 years in Chicago before coming back home to the beautiful PNW in 2014.
  • I speak Spanish (pero solo nivel intermedio…estoy un proyecto en progreso, siempre!)
  • I love to be outside, hiking and photographing beautiful sunsets.
  • “Dessert cereal” is a thing at my house.
  • No one ever believes I’m an introvert. I am, I swear. Being opinionated doesn’t revoke your introvert card, y’all!
  • Gallows humor and memes are my favorite coping mechanisms.

You’ll love working with me if:

  • You want to have fun even when you’re working hard
  • You don’t want to waste time trying to figure it out on your own
  • You adore leaving a meeting with clear action items and next steps
  • You’re ready to leave any and all martyr shenanigans behind

If that sounds like a good fit for you:

Or maybe you already have an idea of what you need…
